Spring Before Fall Heading into New York Fashion Week
It finally feels like summer 2011 in the Bay Area, but for the fashion world, it’s Spring 2012.
The runway shows of New York Fashion Week start just after Labor Day and the fashion flock will be considering warm-weather clothes for NEXT summer, even before THIS summer is done.
For us Northern Californians, watching what comes down the catwalk for later will guide our shopping decisions for right now. That’s because what we buy in the next few months will probably be worn through May, even June if the weather is anything like this year. I always feel like a smug stylegal when I’ve chosen a color or silhouette that still looks fresh after the season is done.
Designer Tracy Reese, whose label is sold in Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and boutiques such as Iniam in Piedmont and Specialtees in Lafayette, passed along her thoughts and inspiration for her upcoming collection, giving a hint to what we’ll see on her spring runway: “A feminine yet relaxed mood is achieved through the juxtaposition of romance and sport, comfort and flattery. Subtle hues of khaki and blush mixed with pastel shades of waterfall, misty blue and aqua tears gradually intensify to deep saturated tones and neon brights, making a bold splash for transition into summer.”
